It’s a tetracycline antibiotic used in the treatment of a number of types of infections caused by Bacteria and Blood Protozoa (Tick Fever Treatment or tick-borne diseases or Lyme disease treatment).

Indication / Uses:
Tickborne diseases- Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme’s disease Chlamydia, etc Leptospirosis Mycoplasmosis Toxoplasmosis
Infections of the urogenital tract or Urinary tract infection treatment.
Doses and administration:
4.4 to 11 mg/kg B.Wt twice a day for 6 weeks or as per veterinarian advice.
Dogs and Cats: 10 mg/kg B. Wt. Once a day for 4-6 weeks or as your vet does advise.
Overdoses / Side effects / Contraindications /Warnings:
Adverse reactions or Commonly observed Doxycycline side effects are like vomiting, nausea and diarrhoea are common. Sometimes oesophagitis and oesophageal ulceration may develop.
In young animals poor bone growth and teeth discoloration.
In pregnant animal may lead to deformity of foetus or teratogenic effects with poor bone development.
Don’t use in animals with the history of oesophagitis.
Doxycycline causes liver stress in susceptible animals.
Poor absorption with antacids, calcium, magnesium and iron salts.
Should not be used with bactericidal antibiotics.
Phenobarbital and phenytoin increase the metabolism of doxycycline.

Que: My pet has been diagnosed with tick fever and age is just 5 months. Is it safe to use?
Que: My pet doesn’t accept medicines easily. Can I mix it with curd or buttermilk?
Ans: No. Avoid calcium-rich food and calcium supplements along with oral doxycycline or tetracyclines. Poor absorption is the main issue.
Que: Is doxycycline is the only medicine or antibiotic for tick fever in dogs?
Ans: No. Other drug combinations are available and it depends on the blood parasite and physical status and severity of the case. Ask your vet for further options.
